Here’s how to fix it!!

This is a short post simply to create awareness that Facebook has made a change which alters your news feed settings. “Big deal,” you say? Well, there’s a good chance now that those who you want to see the things you post may not see them at all. On a personal level, this is merely annoying. But on a business level where companies rely on a personal Facebook page as a social media venue for listening and reaching out — not to mention those who rely on it to make sales — this could be detrimental to a bottom line or customer happiness. Personally, I utilize my Facebook page to share my posts from here with my followers, so this is kind of a big deal to me.

In a new public event called “problem w/ facebook” on — you guessed it — Facebook, one David Baratier hopes to create awareness with the issue and help to resolve it (it’s a simple fix and the difference is immediately noticeable afterwords). He explains the issue as follows:

The “New Facebook” has a newsfeed setting that by default is automatically set to show ONLY posts from people who you’ve recently interacted with or interacted the most with (which would be limited to the couple of weeks just before people started switching to the new profile). So in other words, for both business and personal pages, unless your friends/fans commented on one of your posts within those few weeks or vice versa – you are now invisible to them and they are invisible to you!!

Here is the solution has he has outlined it (I’ve numbered it for ease of viewing):

• 1 – On the homepage, click the “Most Recent” title on the right of the “News Feed.”
• 2 – Click on the drop-down arrow beside “Most Recent” and select “Edit Options.”
• 3 – Click on “Show Posts From” and change the setting to “All Of Your Friends and Pages.”
• Note: Business pages do not have a news feed; however, page owners should adjust the settings on their personal accounts.

Right. Now that you have that completed, Mr. Baratier continues (bold emphasis by me):

The good news is: now you can now view all of your friends and fans again. The bad news is: YOU ARE STILL INVISIBLE to a large portion of your list. You must get the word out to ALL of your friends and fans by inviting them to this event or creating one of your own so they can read the post and adjust their settings. To invite your friends: Click on “Attending” at the top and then you will see an option to invite your friends at the top left. It’s public so everyone who logs onto facebook can view it and even the friends who can’t see your posts WILL see the event invitation. You can also tweet about it, create a blog post or send out an email to your subscribers in hopes of reaching them all.

So, now that you’ve fixed the issue, doesn’t it just grate on your nerves that Facebook does things like this without making proper attempts to create as much awareness as possible with the issue? I mean, I don’t know about you, but I simply don’t have the time to constantly keep on top of scouring Facebook to see what differences they decide to roll out day-by-day. Maybe an email sent out to everyone, perhaps?

So, go forth into the wild and tell all ye know lest you’re a glutton for abandonment!
